Perfect read

I bought this book following a friend's recommendation. it was what I expected and more. I now feel confident about breast feeding and it cleared many doubts that I had.

Carlos Gonzalez has a wonderful approach to "baby matters", empowering women to follow their hearts and instincts and trust their gut.

A must-have resource for new breastfeeding mothers.

If you are committed to breastfeeding, keep a copy of this book on hand. It's supportive, and tells you the science of how your breasts work so you can make choices that make sense for you and your baby to keep your milk supply up, instead of focusing on anecdotal tales you find on the internet. Stop reading the internet for your breastfeeding woes and read this book instead, at least first! I wish I'd read it before my baby arrived to better deal with those first few months, but even when I got a copy of it several months in I found it helpful!

Consciousness is Everything
We are studying this book in our Yoga Teacher Training course, with guidance by a Swami with a specific interest in Kashmir Shaivism. The study sessions have been very interesting, lively with debate and particularly insightful (as I am at a point in my life where I am asking, who am I and what is everything all about!?)

I have found this book to be an articulate, clearly explained description of the philosophy of Kashmir Shaivism, which in a nutshell, explains to me why everything is the way it is. My opinion is that it is not particularly aimed at the novice (I had this book for a year or more before I could make sense of some parts of it) and having someone more enlightened to explain aspects of the content was of great benefit to my understanding of some of the concepts. On a practical level, I find the many meditations in the book very powerful for my own use and for the meditations I incorporate into my yoga classes. The feedback from students has been very positive.

'Consciousness is Everything' provides a wonderful in-depth look at this intelligent approach to spirituality. I shy away from giving personal accounts of what this book did for me or what it could do for you, as everyone and their path is different. Read it for yourself, and see. If you are a seeker and happen upon this page and this book, I can highly recommend adding it to your collection.

Kashmir Shaivism explained!

I have read The Doctrine of Vibrations and The Secret Supreme, but neither of them explain Kashmir Shaivism as well as Swami Shankarananda's book. Anyone interested in the topic would do well to read this book.

I Love this Author!

Having purchased and read 3 books by Swamiji previously i was always going to buy this book.
It did cross my mind beforehand however that perhaps i had already covered everything i required for my spiritual practise. What else could there be to learn after all? I had already read at least ten books on the matter.
Anyway, i couldn't have been more wrong about that. By breaking down and presenting the wisdom of this ancient and powerful tradition in a manner that i could understand and enjoy i learnt and experienced that spiritual wisdom has many dimensions and infinite depth. I particularly love the chapter where the various methods of achieving enlightenment are layed out and explained so clearly.
What i like most however is the feeling that shines through all this authors books. You can sense he is the real deal and writes from a special, special place.

Romance in a difficult time

The Clash Between the Minds is the story of former Union officer Sarah-Bren Coulter, her partner Faith Pruitt and Faith's son Benjamin. The book is set in the period after the Civil War when the United States was trying to put itself back together, but the process didn't occur easily. Many people still clung to bitter feelings from the war and did not want to accept the new reality of freed slaves living among them. In this version life in a Missouri town is difficult for both women. Faith is serving as the town's teacher while Sarah is trying to keep their farm going. Their relationship is viewed by the local people as odd, at best, and definitely undesirable. They find their family caught up in the growing violence brought on by the appearance of the Ku Klux Klan and a rising tide of hatred caused by people who will not accept anyone who is different from their definitions of "normal" and "desirable." Forces conspire to tear them apart and, in an effort to save the woman and son she loves, Faith may have to agree to their demands. Faith is confused; Sarah goes on a quest to find somewhere that they can be safe; and whether or not they will be able to save their relationship hangs very much in doubt.

The Reconstruction period following the US Civil War was one of the most difficult in the country's history. It would seem an odd period in which to set a romance, but it provides a perfect environment to show how a relationship can be tested. It also gives Nann Dunne a setting to explore important questions like racism, bigotry and terrorism. This is a story about two women who face challenges to their love, but it's also a bigger story as a country struggles to overcome hatred that is openly and vigorously expressed. As the tale of Sarah and Faith is interwoven with the realistic recreation of events that occurred then, it becomes clear that there is more at risk than them. The soul of a nation is also being tested.

Dunne has created strong, but flawed main characters; flawed in a way that makes them susceptible to doubt. She surrounds them with noble and brutal secondary characters that bring out the best and the worst in both women. This is an interesting and enjoyable book, but it goes beyond that because it's also educational and thought provoking. This is a story that can be enjoyed on two levels, first as a powerful romance and then as a commentary on a difficult era. This is definitely a book worth reading.

After reading book one of the series by Nann Dunn, I went right into the second book, The Clash Between The Minds ( Book Two
In the Hearts, Minds, Soul Series ) happy to say I was lost for about three hours, I had to Try and put it down to get things done. I LOVED the history in the first and second books. I wish more love stories were included along with history. Women played such important roles in the history of our country! I fell in love with Faith and Sara. Leah, Benjamin and other wonderful characters in this series, I cannot wait for book three! PLEASE HURRY WITH IT!

joy. All the ingredients that make up any friendship ...

"Poignant," aside from being cliche, isn't quite the right word - though on first pass Learn to Swim does seem to evoke the sadness and regret that "poignant" is defined as.
But as Haeger explores the intimacy of friendship through the everyday events of 10 years of life together, so much more is unpacked than just sadness or regret. There is hope, wonder, growth, pain, sorrow, loss, joy. All the ingredients that make up any friendship worth having.
An excellent memoir exploring how life and those everyday events shape us even as our choices shape those events and our memory of them.
Well worth the read.

There are only a few books I've ever read that are considered a "fast read" but also make me stop to think - over and over. This is one of those books. Broad themes of childhood, fear, joy, friendship, and loss are obvious, but within those are the deeper, more subtle messages of navigating childhood, how to be a friend and alternately fail as a friend, how joy and fear and love and loss are intertwined...as you read Haeger's account, you can't help but take stock in your own experiences. Simple, thoughtful, wonderful.

Learn to Swim

I was absolutely blown away by this book. It was one of the most powerful stories I've read in a long time. Incredibly brave and honest. It had me nodding along and relating, and wanting to reach out to my friends and family just to talk. A sometimes sad, always genuine, and completely unique experience.
