5 Hearts for Kade & Harley

Kade is an ex-SEAL who, on his first night back home, was in the wrong place at the wrong time. With no evidence to back up his side of the story, he's promptly tried and convicted of manslaughter and sent to prison. He waits for his SEAL team brothers to return home and conduct their own investigation, but their pending arrival only makes things worse. The people behind the murder are rich and powerful and will do anything to keep their involvement a secret. It's no longer his freedom on the line, but his life. If that's not bad enough, his high school crush, Harley, works at the prison and while she's close enough to touch, she's never been more out of reach.

Kade is your typical SEAL: loyal; dominant; dangerous; and sex-on-a-stick hot. When I say dominant, I mean he's sometimes too dominant to the point he'd come off as controlling and overbearing. But he more than makes up for it in the bedroom. Harley is a very smart and capable woman, but sometimes she did really stupid things that, of course, would put her in danger. Kade's SEAL buddies, Prez and D, were funny despite the situation and added just the right amount of comic relief.

FRAMED was a great read and the first I've read from CP Smith. The synopsis caught my attention and it ended up being a book I couldn't put down. The mystery itself wasn't really there because you get told pretty early on who all the players are and what they're hiding, but it still had me gnawing at my fingernails waiting for the next exciting moment. The only issue I had with the story was the constant references to The Princess Bride. I swear it was mentioned in almost every chapter and I'm assuming it was done to lighten the mood, but it ended up being very silly. FRAMED is told in dual POVs and comes with a nice HEA where everyone gets exactly what they deserve.

Navy SEAL? Yes Please!

CP Smith has done it again! Just when you think she can't top her last book... BOOM! She amazes me all over again.

I have read each and every book she has published to date, and each and every time, I devour them.

Kade and Harley have been aware of each other, circling each other for years. But their timing has never been right, and nothing has ever happened.

They do finally start to get their act together - but not in the best or most convenient circumstances.

I just love Ms Smith's alpha men - and this one being a Navy SEAL - can I just saw phwooooar (I may be a bit of a sucker for a SEAL)

Then there are her feisty, take no BS do women. Harley is a firecracker! She gets herself into dramas, but she is not too stupid to listen when she needs to. Her job as a trainer with abused dogs - waterworks! I loved this additional aspect to the story.

Watching Kade claim Harley - finally - is a beautiful thing. No matter what has happened, where he is at, he has held his head high. And now he is taking what he has always wanted.

And last but not least - Kade's tough as s***, take no prisoners, "The Princess Bride" loving SEAL brothers. Oh how I love love love them! They will surprise you more than once whilst reading Framed.

There is more to Kade's incarceration then you first think, and as the story progresses, tales of lies, deception, corruption and injustice come to the fore. The dark depths that Harley and the Brute Squad will delve into to find truth will have you on the edge of your seat.

Ms Smith drew me into this story from the moment I first read a synopsis months ago. And from the first word to the last, she held me captive.

Do yourself a favour - read this book. You will not be disappointed.

What I loved:
Ever start a book, and from the first page, just have that feeling in your gut. It’s not a bad feeling, but not good either. It’s that clenching feeling that teeters on heartbreak, but swings towards hope. Yes. That one. Kade was stripped of his freedom, after fighting so hard to protect his country’s and wrongfully imprisoned. While there, he slowly starts to lose hope that his former SEAL team will do what they have to, to free him and clear his name. Then of course, there is Harley. She is the dog trainer that comes to the jail three times a week to help rehabilitate inmates by using the dogs. She remembers Kade from high school, and she still feels exactly the same way about him now. Kade and Harley sizzle when they get together. It has been years of different journeys and roads traveled, but both of them are able to be together now. Harley knows down to her bones Kade is innocent and may just save Kade, as much as Kade saves her. Never has there been two main characters who are BOTH the heroes like Kade and Harley!

What I didn’t Love:

CP always captures me by the heart and gives me the feels. I just wasn’t expecting it so soon in this book. It’s not something I am used to. I suppose that is why I am writing this here because I was just unsure of what I felt. LOL. In all seriousness, there is never anything that I don’t love about CP’s books.



Overall:
FRAMED is a long-lost lovers, military, romantic, alpha covered story that grips you from page one. It shares a story of true commitment and the meaning of no man left behind. What else can I really say…GO 1-CLICK NOW!!!

This book is inspiring and comforting. It feels like sitting down and listening to stories from your favorite aunt. There are certain essays that I read over and over when the world feels overwhelming. I turn to the essay 'National Spirit' when our politicians have nothing positive to say.

life lessons in an easy to read format

I enjoyed this book for several reasons. It is a series of short life lessons based on real experiences so you can pick it up and read a few pages at a time. I don't think most of us would look at Maya Angelou today and think she had made poor decisions as a young adult so it is a great reminder that we are all human and that the events in our past shape who we become. I went back and bought a couple more copies to give as Christmas gifts, including one for my own daughter.

He is the Author/Editor of more than fifty books, most recently the Fifth edition of Marketing Strategy and Management (2014), and over 150 academic Chapters and Articles. He is the Founding Editor of the Journal of Marketing Management and currently Editor of the Journal of Customer Behaviour and the new journal Social Business.

The FAR/FC book arrived as expected. This is a great book to keep updated for FAR 121 and 135 operations. Keep in mind this is not a FAR/AIM, and the comments from people ordering the wrong product here are not reliable.

Content-wise, it's exactly what'd you'd expect... it's a book of regs.

I did manage to break the spine and lose a few pages from the binding while studying, though. Admittedly, I wasn't being particularly gentle. Still, this is a book that's going to be opened repeatedly to the same pages, and folded flat on the table so it doesn't close on itself. This might benefit from being spiral-bound, instead.

About the Author

Elliot Aronson�

Elliot Aronson is one of the most renowned social psychologists in the world. In 2002 he was chosen as one of the 100 most eminent psychologists of the twentieth century. He is currently Professor Emeritus at the University of California at Santa Cruz and Distinguished Visiting Professor at Stanford University.

Dr. Aronson is the only person in the 110-year history of the American Psychological Association to have received all three of its major awards: for distinguished writing, distinguished teaching, and distinguished research. Many other professional societies have honored his research and teaching as well. These include: the American Association for the Advancement of Science, which gave him its highest honor, the Distinguished Scientific Research award; the American Council for the Advancement and Support of Education, which named him Professor of the Year of 1989; the Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues, which awarded him the Gordon Allport prize for his contributions to the reduction of prejudice among racial and ethnic groups. In 1992, he was named a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. He has served as President of the Western Psychological Association as well as President of the Society of Personality and Social Psychology.

Tim Wilson�

Tim Wilson did his undergraduate work at Williams College and Hampshire College and received his Ph.D. from the University of Michigan. Currently Sherrell J. Aston Professor of Psychology at the University of Virginia, he has published numerous articles in the areas of introspection, attitude change, self-knowledge, and affective forecasting, as well as the recent book, Strangers to Ourselves: Discovering the Adaptive Unconscious. His research has received the support of the National Science Foundation and the National Institute for Mental Health. He has been associate editor of the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology and a member of the Social and Groups Processes Review Committee at the National Institute of Mental Health. He has been elected twice to the Executive Board of the Society for Experimental Social Psychology and is a Fellow in the American Psychological Society. Wilson has taught the Introduction to Social Psychology course at the University of Virginia for more than twenty years. He was recently awarded an All University Outstanding Teaching Award.

Robin Akert

Robin Akert graduated summa cum laude from the University of California at Santa Cruz, where she majored in psychology and sociology. She received her Ph.D. in experimental social psychology from Princeton University. She is currently a professor of psychology at Wellesley College, where she was awarded the Pinanski Prize for Excellence in Teaching early in her career. She publishes primarily in the area of nonverbal communication and recently received the AAUW American Fellowship in support of her research. She has taught the social psychology course at Wellesley College every semester for over twenty years.

This book provides a wealth of information and goes in depth into the newly formed field of Social Psychology. The only drawback was the typographical errors that it contained, which is probably why it was for sale online rather than in a bookstore.

Great Addition to the Personal Library

I love this. I've had some interest in Psychology in general, so when I needed this book for my Social Psych. class, this was well-informed of all the issues and concepts that are presented in analysing society as individuals and groups. It has opened my eyes to see people in a different outlook when people are rude, inconsiderate, or when people come as "weird."

Besides those particular points, it also helps in understanding your own personal actions. You can receive a lot from this book that can benefit yourself and others for the good of your social environment. Highly recommend this.

Reissue of J. A. Baker’s extraordinary classic of British nature writing

Despite the association of peregrines with the wild, outer reaches of the British Isles, The Peregrine is set on the flat marshes of the Essex coast, where J A Baker spent a long winter looking and writing about the visitors from the uplands – peregrines that spend the winter hunting the huge flocks of pigeons and waders that share the desolate landscape with them.

Including original diaries from which The Peregrine was written and its companion volume The Hill of Summer, this is a beautiful compendium of lyrical nature writing at its absolute best. Such luminaries as Richard Mabey, Robert Macfarlane, Ted Hughes and Andrew Motion have cited this as one of the most important books in 20th Century nature writing, and the bestselling author Mark Cocker has provided an introduction on the importance of Baker, his writings and the diaries – creating the essential volume of Baker's writings.

Papers, maps, and letters have recently come to light which in turn provide a little more background into J A Baker’s history. Contemporaries – particularly from his time at school in Chelmsford – have provided insights, remembering a school friend who clearly made an impact on his generation.

Among fragments of letters to Baker was one from a reader who praised a piece that Baker had written in RSPB Birds magazine in 1971. Apart from a paper on peregrines which Baker wrote for the Essex Bird Report, this article – entitled On the Essex Coast – appears to be his only other published piece of writing, and, with the agreement of the RSPB, it has been included in this updated new paperback edition of Baker’s astounding work.

Werner Herzog says you should read this book.

Purchased this after listening to an interview with director Werner Herzog, who stated that this is the only book that he *requires* all of his film students to take. He writes:

"I’m Werner Herzog, I’m a filmmaker normally but I do read. The book I would really recommend is an obscure book published in 1967: “The Peregrine,” by J.A. Baker, who is somebody about whom we know nothing, literally nothing. He wrote in Great Britain when the last peregrines were dying out—now they have bounced back a little bit. He observes peregrines and it’s a most incredible book. It has prose of the caliber that we have not seen since Joseph Conrad. And an ecstasy—a delirious sort of love for what he observes.

The intensity and the ecstasy of observation is something that you have to have as a filmmaker or somebody who loves literature. Whoever really loves literature, whoever really loves movies, should read that book.

In a way, it’s almost like a transubstantiation, like in religion, where the observer becomes almost the object—in this case the falcon—he observes. He writes, for example, about the falcon soaring high up, and then higher and higher until the falcon is only a dot. Then he writes, “and then we swoop down,” as if he had become a falcon himself. And there’s a variety of moments where you can tell that he has completely entered into the existence of a falcon. And this is what I do when I make a film, I step outside of myself into an ekstasis in Greek, to step outside of your own body, a point outside. Baker steps into the fog and in an ecstasy of observing the world it is unprecedented."

OK, so it was a bad idea for a 5-year old, but.....

One of my granddaughters developed an extraordinary fascination for peregrine falcons. To accommodate, I bought a variety of peregrine-themed items (plush toy, video, maps...) and among them, this book. Every thing was delivered promptly....this book from England; but when I arrived and asked after the collection of items sent, I was met with stern criticism about the book. I had read a bit on line, and had expected the opposite. I sat down with the book and was immediately enchanted. Choosing another entry point at random, I again found myself engaged and wondrous. A third roll of the dice produced the same result. I sat my granddaughter down and began to read and to explain why what I read/heard was so marvelous. She cocked her head, spun on her heel, and was gone. "Can we play monster?" echoed from the next room.
I'm counting the days until she's six. None of you should wait, unless you're five.

This book is a treasure of the English language

No other way to put it: This book is a treasure of the English language.

In The Peregrine J.A. Baker describes how he tracked and trekked over months and miles in his native England to watch and record in language like you've never read how peregrines hunt and feed and fly and play and rest. The language he uses to construct his sentences is like none other I have ever read. It's a vivid mix of nature writing and the best poetry. The text is so dense, the sentences are so packed with words bringing life to action--there really is no reading experience I can compare this to. I could only stand to read a few pages at a time; "relish" not "read" would be the better word there.

This is more than "nature writing," too. Baker gets under the very surface of life to expose what lurks. Just a few excepts to illustrate:

"The hardest thing of all to see is what is really there."

"Terror seeks out the odd, and the sick, and the lost."

“There is no mysterious essence we can call a 'place'. Place is change. It is motion killed by the mind, and preserved in the amber of memory.”

“Whatever is destroyed, the act of destruction does not vary much. Beauty is vapour from the pit of death.”

I cannot give The Peregrine anything less than 5 stars. It's more than a book, it is a reading experience. Reading it will expand your senses. It will enliven you and enrich you as a human being. I think that's the greatest thing we can expect from any book.
